Summer is a great time to read books that you want to read. What books are you going to read this summer? Who is your favourite author? Do you read a lot while you are on holiday?
We've (finally) finished The Three Musketeers! It was a challenging storyline to follow, but we made it through to the end. Who was your favourite character in the story? Why?
In the beginning of the story, we meet Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, just as he's finished fighting in a war. He is ready to return to his wife and his son, whom he hasn't seen in many years. The gods, however, are plotting against Odysseus and will stop at nothing to prevent him from getting home. Odysseus has many challenges to face on his way back to Ithaca: first, him and his men were faced with a Cyclops, who trapped them in a cave. The men were able to blind the Cyclops, and cleverly tied themselves to the belly of sheep to escape the cave. The next challenge they faced was an enchantress, who turned some of Odysseus' men into pigs! Eventually they were able to leave her land (after a year of feasting!) and continue on their journey. Next, the men had to go visit the land of the dead so that they could find the way back to Ithaca. From there, they began their journey, where they faced more challenges; singing sirens who tempt them to jump into the sea; a whirlpool monster, Charybdis, that could suck the ship underwater; and Scylla, the sea monster with six heads. Imagine you are Odysseus and you are trying to make your way back home to your family after many years at war. Would you give up if you were faced with those challenges?
