Chapter 7 was about Joey`s new rider. In the previous chapter Joey`s beloved rider Captain Nicholls dies, so in chapter 7 he gets a new rider. He is called Trooper Warren who, is not a good horseman at all. He is young, with a pink face, that instantly reminds Joey of Albert, a young boy who owned him before he became a war horse. He is tense on the saddle and is always very nervous. This is because he has had a rough time in the war, and he never thought he could get back on horseback again. But the thing is, he was not afraid of the firing of the guns or anything like that. His old horse got shot underneath him. But, it turns out that Joey and Trooper Warren are inseparable. Trooper Warren does ride him, but not very well. He cares for Joey, helps Joey, he even talks to Joey. He feeds him, too. Joey wants another rider, though, because as mentioned previously, he is not very experienced, although he wants Trooper Warren as his carer. Trooper Warren reads his letters sent to him by his mum to Joey, and the letters often say the same thing. After that, they go out to battle, with Captain Nicholls' friend who is still alive in the war. He is called Captain Jamie Stewart and Topthorn, a great black stallion that is Joey`s very good friend.
