The Three Musketeers
The Three Musketeers, by Alexandre Dumas, was published in 1844. It tells the story of d'Artagnan, a country boy who travels to Paris to seek his fortune and, hopefully, to join the Musketeers -- the bodyguards of the King of France. He meets three musketeers called Athos, Porthos and Aramis. Together they foil a dangerous plot against King Louis and his Queen, Anne -- and against their own lives.
Last term, we read The Odyssey. We followed Odysseus on his journey home after battle.

In Call of the Wild by Jack London, we learn about a dog, Buck, who becomes a sleigh dog for men who are looking for gold in the bitter cold of Canada! Buck was used to living as someone's pet, when suddenly he had to learn to cope with the freezing temperatures and the 'pack mentality' of the other dogs.
